This historic King Street storefront, once a c.1830 seed business, is now Juliska's Flagship.
The vision for the restored space was to meld historic features with modern luxury- honoring the building's storied, Southern past while upholding the luxury tableware brand's European roots. As part of the extensive, two-story renovation, PWD Studio transformed the underutilized space into a bi-level shopping and entertainment haven, brimming with rich design details that encapsulate the brand’s romantic ethos.
Architectural updates included removing a manual elevator, demolishing and relocating the staircase to be positioned in communal space, adding plumbing to the concrete slab foundation, and expanding and developing the second floor, previously used as storage, to include a workshop room, a bar and lounge, and a dedicated registry experience that overlooks downtown Charleston’s famous shopping district.
Design details included restoring and replicating the store’s original shelving bays, replacing linoleum flooring with sleek yet durable tile, adding archways adorned with ceramics, imagining staircase finials that resemble ginger jars, designing custom fabrication, and repurposing furniture into powder room vanities with Juliska serving bowls as sink basins.
