LEAD INTERIOR DESIGNER

Charleston, SC

Summary

PWD Studio seeks an experienced and creative Lead Interior Designer & Project Manager. This candidate will lead interior design projects from concept development to completion, ensuring our clients' expectations are met and exceeded. In addition to design and project management experience, excellent communication and mentorship skills are crucial to the success of this role.  

This person will work collaboratively and closely with PWD Studio's Founder & Creative Director to support the overall success of high-end residential, hospitality, and commercial projects. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of design experience, exceptional design sensibility, a passion for innovation, and a very strong work ethic that aligns with the studio's values: humble, hungry, and smart.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage residential and hospitality interior design projects, from concept development to completion. 
  • Work closely with clients to understand their needs and independently develop design proposals that meet their requirements, with approval by PWD Studio's Founder & Creative Director. 
  • Select materials, finishes, furniture, and accessories that meet PWD Studio's style guidelines, clients' design requirements, and budget constraints. 
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and finish schedules, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget. 
  • Manage projects using PWD approved software, follow PWD designed systems and be an example to other staff members by using these programs to their fullest potential. 
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other industry professionals to ensure conceptualized and proposed designs are feasible and meet relevant codes and regulations.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior designers and assist in their growth while simultaneously managing your projects. 
  • Create and/or manage the production of  3D visualizations and renderings to help clients visualize design concepts.  
  • Produce drawings, plans, and specifications using CAD software. 
  • Prepare presentations and present your proposed design concepts to clients in-office and virtually.  Participate in peer reviews prior to client meetings. 
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, materials, and technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or Architecture or a related field.
  • 5 years of demonstrated interior design experience with a portfolio that illustrates your previous work experience. 
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, or Revit.
  • Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to build strong client relationships.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and guide junior designers.
  • A sharp eye for detail, creative problem-solving skills, and the ability to stay solution-focused when faced with challenges. 
  • Must be located in Charleston, SC, have a valid driver's license, and be able to travel locally and out of state to job sites.

Junior interior Designer

Charleston, SC

Summary

PWD Studio is looking for a Junior Interior Designer to join our growing team in Charleston, SC. This team member is responsible for the detailed support of design projects, fulfillment of design materials, and project deadlines.  This position works collaboratively and closely with Lead Interior Designers and the studio’s Founder and Chief Creative Officer to support the overall success of high-end residential, hospitality, and commercial projects. 

The ideal candidate will be heavily skilled in the technical aspects of design, with the ability to manage multiple priorities. A minimum of 2 years of design experience is required, along with a passion for innovation, a desire to learn, and a very strong work ethic. 

Responsibilities

  • Curate thoughtful design selections within budget under direction of a Lead Designer, including fabric, tile, paint, lighting, hardware, etc.
  • Source FF&E from trusted vendors, subcontractors, and artisans; secure specifications, samples, and accurate quotes.
  • Develop cohesive design concepts with sketches, mood boards, palettes, and renderings.
  • Independently produce and edit detailed CAD drawings, furniture plans, elevations, and renderings. 
  • Present design concepts to clients with polish and clarity, working alongside the Founder or Lead Designers.
  • Create comprehensive schedules and proposals of final selections for ordering, purchasing, and installation. 
  • Price FF&E plans and prepare precise, well-documented client-facing proposals and materials.
  • Conduct site visits to ensure design intent is realized, supporting the Lead Designer as needed.
  • Prepare for and participate in client meetings, site visits, and installations; document progress with organized meeting notes and project management software.
  • Work closely with our team to refine ideas and deliver cohesive, high-quality designs.
  • Contribute to our collaborative studio culture by taking initiative, problem-solving, and supporting each phase of the design process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or a related field.
  • 2 years of demonstrated interior design experience with a portfolio that illustrates your previous work. 
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and SketchUp (required) with knowledge of 3D modeling and rendering workflows.
  • Experience with Studio Designer, Google Suite and project management tools (e.g., Asana).
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a polished, professional, and client-facing presence.
  • Proven success with budget management, pricing accuracy, and financial documentation
  • A sharp eye for detail, creative problem-solving skills, and the ability to stay solution-focused when faced with challenges. 
  • Must be located in Charleston, SC, have a valid driver's license, and be able to travel locally and out of state to job sites.
