Based in Charleston, South Carolina, PWD Studio is committed to providing homeowners with a full-service design experience that prioritizes collaboration, communication, and elevated design. We believe the design process begins with cultivating authentic relationships. To envision and realize your ideal space, our first step is to understand what you love and how you live—or want to live—your life. We want to know what inspires you, what catches your eye, and how you envision your perfect home. At PWD Studio, we believe strongly in the architectural tenet, “form ever follows function.” Successful design must consider both how a space looks and how a space is used. This concept is at the core of all design decisions for our projects. Working with PWD Studio from start to finish enables us to ensure that your ideal vision is captured, creating a home that is personal to you and the way you live your life.

She grew up in the small town of Kingstree and studied interior design at Converse College in Spartanburg. Patti began her design career in commercial architecture, where she worked for 18 years, earning her NCIDQ and LEED AP certifications. In 2011, Patti founded Patti Wilbourne Designs, thankful for the opportunity to expand her design expertise while staying close to home.

Today, Patti supports commercial and residential projects, including new builds, remodels, and interior design. With over 28 years of industry experience, her design style emphasizes open spaces, natural light, and most importantly, functionality. Patti is passionate about developing connections with her clients and using that personal understanding to create beautiful, functional spaces that reflect her clients’ taste and lifestyle. Patti is the mother of three wonderful girls and wife to husband, Steve. As a family, they love spending time in the Lowcountry outdoors, relaxing on the water, playing tennis and golf, and enjoying Patti’s parents’ farm. Together, they’ve traveled the world, providing Patti with a wealth of design inspiration.

A native to Savannah, Georgia, Hannah found her love for all things design while pursuing a degree in interior design at Converse College. After graduation, she followed her passion and gained valuable experience working in high-end residential design in Charlotte, North Carolina. Hannah joined PWD Studio in 2019, supporting design projects throughout the Charleston area.

Hannah is inspired by the beauty in making old things new and especially enjoys creating simple, fresh spaces. One of her favorite roles with PWD Studio is walking new clients through each phase of the design process. Hannah seeks to create interiors that tell a story about the people who live there. On her own time, Hannah loves to spend quality time with her husband, Jonathan, sampling coffee shops and exploring the Lowcountry. She dreams of one day owning her own flower farm.

LIZ DRAKE

Architectural Designer

Liz grew up in the small town of Moultrie, Georgia and would develop a passion for architectural design at an early age. With years of experience, Liz has developed a rational approach to design where the final product is the result of a clever and direct response to a project's requirements. Liz graduated from the University of Virginia in 1988 and has a Masters of Architecture from Tulane University.

Liz enjoys collaborating with PWD Studio on projects that include new construction, additions, and renovations that require architectural design. She continues to learn the business of interior design as she is pursuing her MBA at the Citadel. On the weekends you can find Ellen on the beach with her husband Andrew, playing beach volleyball with friends, or offshore fishing with her family. One day Ellen would love to broaden the high end yacht design market in Charleston.

KAREN SCHERNECKER

Architectural Designer

Born and raised in Wisconsin Karen decided early space planning, design and architecture was her thing. She attended the University of Wisconsin- Stout where she earned her Bachelor of Interior Design in Fine Arts degree. During her time at the University she spent a full year in Germany on an exchange program where she honed her mechanical pen drafting skills and gained experiences she wouldn't have otherwise gained.

Her first position was in a small architecture firm designing and documenting retail spaces. Her mentor taught her well and soon after starting there passed the NCIDQ exam in 2004.

Karen doesn't like to sit still. She has lived in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Boston, Fort Lauderdale, Wilmington, NC, Myrtle Beach, Murrells Inlet and now calls Charleston home for the second time.

Most recently Karen decided to go back to school and obtain her master degree in architecture. Graduating in May 2022 with distinction has set her on a new and more clear path of who she and what her focus truly is.

Now, with so much free time after gaining her degree she would like to spend her free time getting back into the activities she had to put on hold for the past 3 years. She enjoys competitive swimming, kayaking, museums, concerts, travel and photography.
