Based in Charleston, South Carolina, PWD Studio is committed to providing homeowners with a full-service design experience that prioritizes collaboration, communication, and elevated design. We believe the design process begins with cultivating authentic relationships. To envision and realize your ideal space, our first step is to understand what you love and how you live—or want to live—your life. We want to know what inspires you, what catches your eye, and how you envision your perfect home. At PWD Studio, we believe strongly in the architectural tenet, “form ever follows function.” Successful design must consider both how a space looks and how a space is used. This concept is at the core of all design decisions for our projects. Working with PWD Studio from start to finish enables us to ensure that your ideal vision is captured, creating a home that is personal to you and the way you live your life.

Born and raised in Wisconsin Karen decided early space planning, design and architecture was her thing. She attended the University of Wisconsin- Stout where she earned her Bachelor of Interior Design in Fine Arts degree. During her time at the University she spent a full year in Germany on an exchange program where she honed her mechanical pen drafting skills and gained experiences she wouldn't have otherwise gained.
Her first position was in a small architecture firm designing and documenting retail spaces. Her mentor taught her well and soon after starting there passed the NCIDQ exam in 2004.
Karen doesn't like to sit still. She has lived in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Boston, Fort Lauderdale, Wilmington, NC, Myrtle Beach, Murrells Inlet and now calls Charleston home for the second time.
Most recently Karen decided to go back to school and obtain her master degree in architecture. Graduating in May 2022 with distinction has set her on a new and more clear path of who she and what her focus truly is.
Now, with so much free time after gaining her degree she would like to spend her free time getting back into the activities she had to put on hold for the past 3 years. She enjoys competitive swimming, kayaking, museums, concerts, travel and photography.
